Shipping Rabbits By Air
Yes, we do ship rabbits, at the buyer's expense. If you
are looking for a pet rabbit, or you can find the breed, variety,
gender, and quality of rabbit that you need within driving distance,
I would discourage you from getting rabbits shipped to you due to
the cost. I will provide front, rear, top, and side photos of each
rabbit you are interested in, at your request, if you are interested
in having rabbits shipped to you. I give you my word that the images
are in no way altered. I do not believe in selling a rabbit to a
person who has never even seen pictures of the rabbit.
Requirements:
I will not ship less than three rabbits at once. It is
just not worth it for me to drive all the way to the airport to
ship less than three rabbits, even if I am reimbursed for gas. I
will not ship pet quality rabbits for two reasons: It is expensive
if you just want a pet rabbit, and I cannot spend the time talking
with you in person to make sure you will give a good home to my
rabbit.
Airlines:
We use Continental airlines as it is the only airline in
our very small airport that will take rabbits.
Cost:
Airfare: This depends on the total size and weight
of the carrier, with the rabbits in it. The cost is usually $100
to $200 for up to 6 rabbits.
Carrier: The carrier we use has a deeper pan than normal,
a pan on top (to fit airline requirements for a solid top) and a
space for hay between cages so the rabbits can eat hay. It costs
$65.00 including shipping and handling from the makers for a 6 hole,
and $58.00 including shipping and handling for a 4 hole. These carriers
come with food and water dishes.
Health Certificate: A health certificate csots $30 plus
$10 per rabbit for the examination fee, for up to 6 rabbits.
Travel Costs: If I have to drive to the Bismark airport
to ship from a different airline than Continental, I charge $50
for gas and time.
Rabbits: This includes the total price off all the rabbits
you are having shipped to you. Since multiple rabbits can be shipped
at a lower price per rabbit, it is generally better to get several
rabbits at once (up to 6) rather than just have one shipped to you.
To help offset the cost of shipping, I can breed senior does before
they are shipped, but I do not guarantee that they will be pregnant
or that they will deliver live litters and care for them. I only
guarantee that I bred them, witnessed the breeding, and, as far
as I know, the breeding was successful (i.e. The buck fell off the
doe). I usually breed a doe three times in a day, one hour between
each breeding, as that seems to give me the best conception rates
and the largest litters. If you prefer a different method of breeding,
let me know and I can use that instead. I will not ship does that
are more than 10 days pregnant due to the stress involved in shipping
a pregnant doe.
What Is Included?:
With each rabbit I ship, I will include the following:
1. A full and correct (to the best of my knowledge) pedigree (unless
a previous agreement is made that does not involve a full pedigree).
This will be sent prior to shipping, by regular mail, so that it
is not lost during shipping. You may also request it via email,
as I use Evans pedigree program and can email pedigrees or place
them online for you.
2. A health certificate, dated within 10 days of travel, stating
that the rabbit was healthy as of the date of the health certificate.
3. A guarantee stating that if the rabbit becomes ill within 10
days from the date it is shipped, I will refund the purchase price.
I will not refund the travel expenses, however. The only refund
I will give is on the purchase price of the rabbit itself.
What Do You Need To Do?:
1. You must have sent me the full price for the rabbits
and the shipping costs before I will ship. I will hold rabbits for
a non-refundable deposit of 50% of the total cost of the rabbit,
but I will not ship without all of the expenses covered. If you
back out of the deal, you may or may not get some of your expenses
refunded. If I have not yet purchased the tickets, the carriers,
or the health certificates, you will receive the money for those
back. You will also receive 50% of the price of the rabbits back
(the price, minus the deposit).
2. You must keep in contact with me. If I do not hear from you,
and I have not receive the money yet, I will assume that you are
no longer interested, and I may sell the rabbits to someone else.
I will provide you with my email address and my phone number, so
you can keep in contact.
When I Will NOT Ship:
1. If at any time I feel uncomfortable with having rabbits
shipped to you (i.e. If I feel you might back out, if I feel you
will not properly care for the rabbits, etc.), I reserve the right
to cancel the agreement and give you a full refund.
2. If I have not receive the full price for the rabbits and the
travel expenses, I will not ship.
3. I will not ship rabbits when temperatures exceed 85 degrees
Fahrenheit or if the forcast is for below 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
Most airlines require that the temperatures must be within these
ranges at all touch down points along the way. Some airlines will
ship reguardless of the weather, but there is an additional expense
for this, which the buyer must pay.
4. At this time, I do not ship overseas. However, if I get more
information on the process, and I feel it is worth my time and effort,
as well as being safe for the rabbits, I may consider it at a later
date.
